Mike is a Michigander from a farming family who started over sixteen years ago working with local vineyards to help improve their growing practices and winemaking. In fact he’s probably worked with most of the growers in the Lake Michigan Shores AVA. He will be sharing with us many of the interesting facets of growing grapes in this very unique microclimate. You could easily say Hickory Creek is Chicago’s local winery – not only are they just 70 miles around the Lake near Buchanan MI but ALL of their fruit is grown in their AVA. Nothing comes from outside and none escapes the sharp eye and deft fingers of Mike deSchaaf as he carefully nurtures these vines all season long.

Many people become suspicious of the quality of wine grown in the Midwest, but we can assure you that these are very special and delicious wines made with great skill and care and they are sure to please. This is going to be one of our most interesting and delicious wine dinners and we hope you will join us for a terrific evening of food and fun. We are dedicated to supporting local farms and local food and beverage artisans, and this dinner is sure to be a celebration of both.
